America's Health Rankings: How does Wyoming rank?

According to the recently released national health rankings, Wyoming ranked 24 for 2018.
Neighboring states Utah and Colorado ranked in the Top 10, North Dakota, Idaho, and Nebraska in the Top 20. Montana tied for 21st and South Dakota ranked 26th.

Strengths

Low levels of air pollution

Low cancer death rate

Low percentage of children in poverty


Challenges

High percentage of uninsured population (Ranking: 44)

High occupational fatality rate (Ranking: 50)

Low rate of primary care physicians (Ranking: 46)


Woman-Specific

Higher-than-US-average maternal mortality rate (24.6 deaths per 100,000 v 20.7)

11% increase in maternal mortality since 2016

8% increase in infant mortality since 2016

Lack of a dedicated health care provider (Ranking: 46)


Highlights

In the past six years, obesity increased 15% from 25.0% to 28.8% of adults

In the past five years, occupational fatalities increased 49% from 8.4 to 12.5 deaths per 100,000 workers

In the past year, diabetes increased 8% from 8.3% to 9.0% of adults

In the past year, mental health providers increased 7% from 310.2 to 331.6 per 100,000 population
