Pay Equity: What Does It Mean?

Women are better off today, both in Wyoming and nationwide, than they were 10 years ago. Better, however, does not equal good. Improved does not mean equitable.

To illustrate this, the chart below--drawn from 2017 American Community Survey from Census.gov--demonstrates that pay equity in Wyoming is far from a reality.

To dig deeper into this issue, Reps. Cathy Connolly and Marti Halverson co-sponsored HB0209 in 2017. The bill, "Disparity in wages and benefits between men and women," commissioned a study by the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, Research & Planning Section. That report--and their recommendations for addressing the gender wage gap--is available here.
