October 19th Is National Period Day!

Updated: Oct 18, 2019

Otober 19th is the inaugural National Period Day!

The Tampon Team in Teton County wants you to know a few things about women, girls, and periods in the US.

  • 1 in 5 girls misses school for lack of period products (and this happens in Wyoming, too)

  • Nearly 2/3 of low-income women can't afford menstrual hygiene products (according to a recent study in St. Louis)

  • More than 1 in 5 low-income women said they had this problem every month

  • SNAP and WIC do not cover period products because they’re not considered essential

  • Menstrual hygiene products are taxed as "luxury items"

Together, we can make a difference for women and girls! Here are some ways you can help:

  • Donate menstrual products, time, or money to the Period Project.

  • Spread the word! Help us eliminate the taboo around periods.

Ensure that women in Wyoming have access to essential hygiene items! Period products are just as much essential hygiene as toilet paper and soap. Here are some easy ways that you can remind people of that:

  • If you run a business or a department, make period products available (for free!) in all your restrooms.

  • If you work for a business, ask that period products be made available in all the restrooms.

  • The Tampon Team can help you! You can pick up supplies by contacting St. John's Episcopal Church or St. John's Hospital Foundation.

If you're in Teton County, come to the Town Square tomorrow to celebrate National Period Day! If you're in another part of Wyoming, send us a note and we can help you get your own Period Project set up!
